LightningEdge® Operating System (LE-OS)

Standards-Based Ethernet Access

Ethernet is the universal access technology for today’s enterprise and metro networks. Metro and enterprise operators are increasingly demanding true “Carrier Class” Ethernet access implementations that support both traditional Ethernet features (low cost, high scalability, interoperability) and the latest advances in Metro Ethernet (security, resiliency, end-to-end management, and service provisioning).

The LightningEdge Operating System is one of the most powerful Ethernet access infrastructure software solutions as a result of World Wide Packets’ commitment to the latest advances in standards-based Ethernet access. By focusing on adoption of existing Ethernet access standards, by participation with the major Ethernet standards bodies (including IETF, IEEE, Metro Ethernet Forum), and by constantly investigating ways to optimize Ethernet access, LE-OS has become a leader in Ethernet access software infrastructure.

Through its active participation in Ethernet standards bodies, World Wide Packets has continually enhanced LE-OS to deliver a comprehensive, standards-based set of access capabilities that operate across point-to-point links as well as across end-to-end connections that may include multiple links. World Wide Packets championed efforts to provide critical Operations, Administration and Management (OAM) capabilities to Ethernet by editing the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard. Recently, these link-level capabilities have been complemented by a project within IEEE 802.1, called IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM). And World Wide Packets is one of the first Ethernet vendors to receive Metro Ethernet Forum QoS/traffic management certification (MEF 14) across its entire product line of Service Access, Service Concentrator, and, Service Delivery Switch platforms.
