LightningEdge® 311v Series Ethernet Switch

Proven LE-OS Operating System

The LE-311v software infrastructure is the LE-OS – the same operating system used in all World Wide Packets Packets Service Concentration Switches (SCS), Service Aggregation Switches (SAS) and Service Delivery Switches (SDS). LE-OS delivers consistent benefits across all Ethernet concentration and distribution configurations, including “hard” QoS, video Multicast services, VLAN tag stacking, and OAM management. These benefits ensure interoperability, easy scalability and reduced training and management expenses.

Figure — LE-OS Spans the Entire Product Line

LE-OS implementation in the LE-311v delivers important advantages for the network operator. First, by using a common operating system code base, World Wide Packets is able to easily and quickly implement the latest Ethernet technical advances across its entire product line.

A second critical advantage of using the common LE-OS operating system code base in the LE-311v is interoperability with multi-vendor Ethernet equipment already installed in a network. World Wide Packets is committed to standards-based Ethernet implementations. As a result, the LE-311v delivers interoperability with installed Ethernet equipment as well as industry-leading network services based on the latest advances in Ethernet technologies from standards bodies like the IEEE, IETF and the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).

The third critical advantage of the common LE-OS code base is the improved efficiency and cost savings of having a common look and feel between all World Wide Packets Ethernet switch platforms. The common LE-OS code base enables a single deployment model in the distribution of configuration files, reduced training and integrated network management with service provisioning all of which greatly reduce ongoing LE-311v operational expenditures. All LE-OS platforms use a common control command line interface (CLI) and common control Management Information Base (MIB), so operators can leverage management training between World Wide Packets platforms. Similarly, the LE-OS auto activation capability enables World Wide Packets platforms to be automatically activated, thereby reducing operating expenses from moves/adds/changes and simplifying overall management of the network.
