World Wide Packets Names Sierre-Energie ‘2007 European FTTH Network Innovator of the Year’

Spokane Valley, WA, February 26, 2008 – World Wide Packets, a leading provider of Carrier Ethernet solutions, today announced that Sierre-Energie, a Swiss power utility and communications service provider, has been named World Wide Packets’ 2007 European Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Network Innovator of the Year. The award recognizes Sierre-Energie’s innovative approach to building an FTTH network that will provide the citizens of Sierre and the surrounding region with the same access to new services that larger cities enjoy.

Sierre-Energie upgraded and extended its existing fiber network with World Wide Packets Carrier Ethernet technology, creating a FTTH communications network capable of delivering full Triple Play services: video, high-speed data and voice services. Sierre’s FTTH network provides its end users with significantly more bandwidth and a complete selection of services at a lower cost than was previously available. The FTTH network is a long term investment that ensures sufficient bandwidth to support anticipated future subscriber growth. Today, Sierre-Energie is a driving force behind the delivery of other advanced services including HDTV.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this award. It is a testament to Sierre’s dedication to providing its customers with the highest level of service,” said Benoit Cosandey, network architect for Sierre-Energie. “Our partnership with World Wide Packets has enabled us to deliver best-in-class Triple Play services while implementing innovative solutions that will enable the company to stay ahead of next-generation requirements.”

The World Wide Packets’ LightningEdge® suite offers companies such as Sierre-Energie premises-based connectivity for optical fiber-based point-to-point Ethernet networks. In 2006 Sierre-Energie deployed a joint solution from World Wide Packets and Lucent Technologies that updated its existing network to deliver Triple Play services and extend its Ethernet offerings to residences and businesses of all sizes.

“Network operators need a highly scalable, cost-effective fiber network to provide next-generation services such as HDTV and IPTV,” said Chad Whalen, senior vice president of global sales and marketing for World Wide Packets. “Sierre-Energie has taken a leadership position in creating a low-cost, high-bandwidth network with the functionality to support the services its customers demand today as well as the advanced services of tomorrow.”

M. Cosandey will participate in a panel discussion at FTTH Council Europe 2008 Conference being held February 27-28 in Paris, France. As a panel participant he will discuss Sierre-Energie’s decision to deploy an FTTH network and its resulting success.
