VOCALDATA AND WORLD WIDE PACKETS COMPLETE VOICE OVER BROADBAND INSTALLATION
Ceristar Corporation Adds IP Telephony Solution to Fiber To The Home Deployment
Richardson, TX - December 3, 2002 – VocalData Inc., the leading provider of integrated voice and managed network applications for next-generation IP telephony systems, and World Wide Packets, the pioneering solutions provider for broadband Ethernet connectivity, today announced interoperability of the VocalData VOISS™ application server with the World Wide Packets LightningEdge Access Portal. Ceristar Corporation, an IP Utility CLEC, is using the two products to deliver voice services to residences in their Provo, Utah deployment, which also includes digital and analog video, and high-speed Internet access.
By adding the LightningEdge Access Portal complete with a built-in Integrated Access Device (IAD), VocalData continues to build its leadership working with more IAD and IP phone models than any other IP Centrex vendor. This increased selection gives service providers options for serving a variety of customer segments—from business to residential and even voice over broadband—at varied price points.
VocalData VOISS is a feature-rich voice application server that enables service providers to offer carrier-grade voice services, including IP Centrex and enhanced business applications, on an open architecture over an IP infrastructure using a variety of access methods. With the VOISS system, service providers are delivering more cost-effective solutions with significantly lower initial investment costs. The VOISS system supports industry standard protocols like MGCP, SIP and SCCP, which give service providers maximum flexibility as they build multi-vendor networks.
“The integration of VOISS and LightningEdge is the key enabler for adding voice services to the Provo deployment,” according to David Bailey, CEO of Ceristar Corporation. “The combined solution provides us with the ability to support high volumes of customers and calls in an easy-to-manage, cost-effective manner.”
The LightningEdge Access Solution enables broadband service providers to provide complete portfolios of telephony, business and entertainment video, broadband data, and Internet access services using an Ethernet connection over fiber and copper. The LightningEdge Access Portals, which are located at the residences, convert analog phone signals into IP packets, and aggregate voice traffic with video and data over 100 Mbps copper or fiber Ethernet network connections or Gigabit Ethernet fiber network connections.
“Incorporation of the LightningEdge Solution with VOISS gives service providers a cost-effective mechanism for providing consumers with a value-added bundle of voice, video, video on demand, and high-speed Internet access,” said Mark Whittier, senior vice president of marketing for VocalData. “LightningEdge combines the control, predictability, and service quality of traditional voice networks with the high-speed bandwidth of Ethernet. That dovetails with VocalData’s value proposition to combine the reliability of traditional voice with the cost-effectiveness of IP networks.”
“LightningEdge interoperability with VocalData’s scalable, cost effective VOISS application server brings valuable services and reach to residential customer bases,” states Barry Kantner, vice president of marketing for World Wide Packets.
