COUTIES POWER SELECTS WORLD WIDE PACKETS FOR WIRED COUNTRY BROADBAND SERVICE NETWORK
Spokane, WA - November 25, 2002 – World Wide Packets equipment has been selected for deployment of a new broadband service delivery network by Counties Power, a leading New Zealand electricity distributor. The World Wide Packets solution will enable delivery of simultaneous telephony, business video, broadband data and Internet access services as required, in any combination, to local Counties residents and businesses beginning in early 2003.
Counties Power CEO, Neil Simmonds, says World Wide Packets was chosen because its solution enables the simultaneous delivery of greater and more diverse services. "The Wired Country broadband network has to be future-proof to ensure that the continually emerging applications and opportunities in the telecommunications arena are available to Counties businesses and homes," he says. "We're confident that World Wide Packets, as pioneers of the Ethernet-based access network, are the best partner for us to achieve this."
"Additionally, World Wide Packets is one of the few organizations worldwide which has commercial experience in integrating wireless, fiber and legacy systems into a homogenous network that delivers to end-user expectations."
Simmonds points out that many equipment vendors claim to support integrated service delivery when in reality their networks support only Internet and data services. By contrast, the World Wide Packets' solution truly integrates voice and video with the Internet and data services. "We believe that once people experience the ultimate in high-speed services, they'll never want to settle for less," he says.
World Wide Packets President and CEO, Dave Curry, is looking forward to working with the New Zealand-based broadband network. "We'd like to think that by bringing together the limitless bandwidth capabilities of their fiber infrastructure with the affordability and proven performance of our Ethernet solution, Counties Power will be able to overcome any potential bandwidth challenges," he said. "The delivery solution they will be offering should lead to high subscriber uptake, high revenues and a great number of satisfied customers."
Counties Power is soon to appoint key telecommunications partners who will sell the Wired Country services to end-user consumers as the service is progressively rolled out from early next year. Businesses and local households will have the choice of a number of different broadband packages ranging from 128kbps to 100Mbps of IP connectivity, either offered through wireless or Ethernet over fiber.
About Counties Power
Based in the Counties District, Counties Power is one of New Zealand's most progressive electricity distributors, supplying its lines to a number of retailers throughout the Counties area.
Owning, managing and maintaining an extensive electricity distribution network comprising over 3,000 kilometers of lines, Counties Power currently supplies electricity to more than 25,000 residents and businesses in the local area.
Formerly the Franklin Electric Power Board, and now owned by the community in the form of a Trust, Counties Power is a wholly local, community-spirited and thinking company. Its community ethos and commitment is such that it is just as concerned and driven by the need to add value to the community and region by providing high quality essential services, as it is to operating a highly efficient, effective and profitable locally-owned electricity distribution company.
Counties Power keeps its profit in the community by having an extensive development program in place. It works hard to ensure its lines are well maintained at all times, that the network is developed to keep in pace with intensifying consumer demand and that its supply is not compromised. Given this, its customers benefit from an intensely managed and maintained electricity distribution infrastructure, with minimal disruption impacting on supply throughout any year. Counties Power also demonstrates its support and community commitment through the regular distribution to its customers of substantial electricity discounts.
