PACKETLIGHT AND WORLD WIDE PACKETS DEMONSTRATE INTEGRATED ACCESS AND METRO FUNCTIONALITY USING PL-16000 INTEGRATED OPTICAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM AND LIGHTNINGEDGE™ 211 ACCESS CONCENTRATOR

Combined Solution Provides Metro and Access Functionality that Enables Ethernet Access from Residential, SOHO and Small Business Parks over SONET/DWDM and Carrier Class GbE Transport Infrastructure

San Diego, CA. and Spokane, WA. May 30, 2002 – Following rigorous testing, PacketLight Networks’ PL-16000 integrated optical transport system has been verified interoperable with the World Wide Packets LE-211 access concentrator, the two companies announced today.

Together, the PL-16000 and LE-211 provide the Ethernet to the Subscriber™ market with metro functionality that enables multiplexing of multiple services and DWDM. With the LE-211’s virtual local area network (VLAN) and multicast capability and the PL-16000’s DWDM/SONET and VLAN based GbE aggregation and transport, a total solution is offered for TDM data and video services.

Conducted at PacketLight’s laboratories, the testing successfully validated the optics, physical and logical connectivity, and overall interoperability of the PL-16000 with the LE-211. Test categories included multicasting GbE transport performance, and Layer 2 VLAN and DWDM functionality.

PacketLight’s PL-16000

The industry’s first integrated optical transport system, the PacketLight PL-16000 combines classical DWDM with Layer 1 and Layer 2 transport aggregation, service ADM and cross-connect functionality. It combines data, voice, storage and video connections and allows carriers to deliver increased bandwidth and any type of network services - whether existing or new - to their customers. PacketLight’s integrated solution significantly reduces capital and operating expenditures and facilitates rapid response to customer demand.

The PacketLight solution also includes two network management applications (BrowseLight™ and ControLight™) that enable carriers to fully exploit PL-16000 functionality and perform management tasks in a fast, convenient and reliable manner.

Now generally available, the PacketLight PL-16000 integrated optical transport system is NEBS Level 3 compliant and has successfully completed several field trials.

World Wide Packets’ LE-211

The World Wide Packets LE-211 access concentrator aggregates Ethernet connections from LightningEdge access portals or other LightningEdge access concentrators on a single platform and trunks connections upstream to a LightningEdge access distributor or directly to service providers or content servers. The LE-211 provides unique subscriber management features, usage-based billing statistics, rate limiting, service channels and uplink capabilities, handling aggregation functionality by directly connecting both MxU (multi-dwelling/tenant units) and Fiber to the Subscriber® to customers at speeds up to 100 Mbps.

With pluggable optics, redundant power supplies and redundant fans, the LE-211 provides maximum reliability and flexibility within budget and performance requirements. It also provides rich management capabilities, automatically provisioning services without requiring software reloads and network outages.
