WORLD WIDE PACKETS BRINGS FIBER TO THE SUBSCRIBER® TO IDAHO DEVELOPMENT

Planned Community provides high-speed, future-proof communications connections to Bear Creek homeowners

Spokane, WA and MERIDIAN, ID—February 11, 2002 – World Wide Packets will supply its Fiber to the Subscriber solution, comprised of customer premises equipment, concentrators and network management software, to Bear Creek, a planned community located in Meridian, Idaho. The development joins many others across the country in offering advanced communications infrastructure to homeowners. "Because the incumbent service providers are avoiding upgrading their legacy infrastructure, developers and other entities such as public utilities and municipalities have been forced to take the initiative," said World Wide Packets Founder Bernard Daines.

Developers say the high-speed connections are a major incentive for buyers, and a deciding factor for many who choose Bear Creek. The fiber optic network connecting Bear Creek homes is managed by WestCom LLC, operating as Digital Easy Chair, which is providing Internet services with plans to offer converged voice and video services soon.

"Fiber optic connections are the only way to ensure that your home is future-proof, ready for whatever new applications emerge," said Tim Taylor, managing member of Digital Easy Chair. "Ten years ago we couldn't imagine email as a communication method and now emails outnumber phone calls. Having a dedicated 100MG fiber optic connection will allow residents to receive high-speed converged services like Internet, high definition television, and telephone over one line, with one bill. It will also let them take advantage of telecommuting, home-based distance learning, and any number of other life-changing conveniences these kinds of networks will make possible."

World Wide Packets solution provides business and residences dedicated 100MG to 1 Gigabit connections. World Wide Packets Portals provide customer premises connections. Concentrators aggregate and distribute voice, video and data services. Management of the system is accomplished via the Lightning Edge Network Supervisor, World Wide Packets' network management software solution. Daines said, "Everyday we see growing evidence that there is pent up demand for converged services-voice, video and data-delivered over FTTS networks. Westcom and Digital Easy Chair clearly understand the future-proof value of these networks and we commend them for their vision and execution."
