EAGLE BROADBAND AND WORLD WIDE PACKETS FORM STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP FOR GROWING FIBER-TO-THE-HOME MARKETPLACE
LEAGUE CITY, TEXAS—January 31, 2002 – Eagle Broadband (AMEX: EAG), a leading supplier of broadband wired and wireless products and services, announced today that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with World Wide Packets, a leading manufacturer of optical network equipment, which provides a solution to deliver massive bandwidth over the last mile of a fiber network. This MOU calls for Eagle to become a preferred solutions provider of World Wide Packets products and services. In addition, Eagle's ClearWorks subsidiary will become a preferred provider of Bundled Digital Services (BDS(SM)) for World Wide Packets' Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployments.
According to Manny Carter, Eagle Broadband's President and COO, a number of Eagle subsidiaries will participate in this new alliance. "In World Wide Packets' FTTH deployments, our BroadbandMagic subsidiary will make its line of Advanced Set-Top Boxes (ASTB) available to World Wide Packets customers and our ClearWorks subsidiary will provide Bundled Digital Services (BDS(SM)), including local and long distance phone service, high-speed Internet connectivity, cable-style television over fiber (with broadcast IP and VOD), and security monitoring service. On the commercial front, our atlanticpacific subsidiary will provide World Wide Packet customers structured wiring and cable installation and project management, including design and installation of Category 5, 5e, 6 Data, fiber optics, multiple-site rollout expertise and site survey/bid response assistance."
Carter continued, "World Wide Packets' industry-leading technology will allow Eagle to greatly reduce our infrastructure costs in our many FTTH deployments, while at the same time increasing the capabilities and features ClearWorks will be able to offer to our customers. With the new, all-IP-based deployments using the World Wide Packets home gateway, we can provide our subscribers true IP functionality, including voice-over IP over standard telephones. We'll also have the ability to provide measured Internet bandwidth, ordered "on demand," at the time it is required by our subscribers from the comfort of their home. I believe the combination of World Wide Packets and Eagle Broadband is extremely powerful. However, even more exciting is the opportunity for Eagle Broadband to team with World Wide Packets and their other partners to provide a total solution for FTTH and system operation to communities and municipalities throughout the country."
Bernard Daines, CEO of World Wide Packets, said, "We're looking forward to working with Eagle Broadband. With the high-performance fiber network solutions World Wide Packets will be deploying through Eagle Broadband, including the entire World Wide Packets Lightning Edge solutions portfolio, our collective customers will enjoy unprecedented communications speeds, the convenience of integrated service delivery and billing, as well as being able to receive new content services that are unavailable through other network architectures. We are gratified to see World Wide Packets' vision validated through this partnership."
